Trying to Navigate Life Without the God Who Takes Away Sins!

Consider, just for a moment, what your life would be like if Christianity isn’t true. What if all the other belief systems of the world are right and you are wrong…and the Easter story is just a myth? (Okay…are you still with me?) Just for argument sake, let’s see where this would take you:

1.    What if you believe there is no God…or maybe you’re not sure? Then you’d be an “atheist” or an “agnostic”…with no purpose or plan that guides your life…except to do whatever pleases you. "No God" means ultimate accountability doesn’t exist; therefore sin has no meaning. Navigating life would be a short self-centered chore…because everything stops when you die. Plus, if there really was a God, you’d have to change how you live. And you’re not about to do that!

2.    What if you believe there is a God…but He’s not personal? Then you’d be a “deist”…thinking God just backed off and sits far off with His arms folded watching as you flounder in life. Or you could be a “pantheist”…then your god is the forces and laws of nature that randomly impact life. So, if you got into trouble you could try praying to your god, but he won’t listen. Or you could try to tap into the power of nature or a tornado. Go ahead, try it and see what happens!

3.    What if you believe God is personal…but He’s not the one, only true God, infinite, self-existent and unchanging? Then you’d be a “polytheist”…thinking there are many gods. Or you may be a “henotheist”…believing there might other gods out there somewhere. Then the gods might be arguing and fighting with each other…like in Greek Mythology! So…which god will you pray to when you’re in trouble? And what solutions can they give when you fail to meet their standards?

4.    What if you believe God isn’t really God…He’s just the personification of a human philosophy? Then your god is a symbol of some cosmic process or comprehensive idea. That means you’ve created a god from your own imagination…and the inner-self is your god! Go ahead; dig deeper into higher levels of consciousness and see if that can take away your sins. Oh…that’s right, you don’t really believe in sin, do you? And the idea of god forgiving sin is unrealistic! But if you really try to live a “good” life, hopefully you can come back as a higher creature in the next life!

Now… back to the reality of the Easter account. All religions of the world desperately reach out to their deities trying to satisfy their requirements. They don’t know that God actually reached out to them first! They don’t know that an infinite God hears the cries of people and steps into their finite world to comfort and answer prayers. They don’t know that God, Himself, bridged the gap of alienation caused by our sin. They don’t know that God loves the world so much that the Son of God (Jesus) came from heaven to the earth, took the penalty of sin upon Himself and died the death that we deserve. They don’t know that when He rose from the dead on “Resurrection” Sunday, His righteousness is freely given to all who trust in His Son, Jesus, and what He did for them. They don’t know that He personally walks with His redeemed people to help them navigate life during good times and bad. And they don’t know that when His believers die, He welcomes them to live with Him forever in heaven. So why don’t they believe in Jesus? Because they haven’t met Him yet! And maybe…just maybe, God might use you to introduce Him to them. Wow…Now that’s the kind of God I can serve all the days of my life!
