Got God’s Strategy? (Part 2): Navigating Life by Knowing the Generalship of God and How He Thinks.
“The God of Moses is a poor general…He leaves him no way of escape!” Those were the arrogant words of Pharaoh in the 1956 Hollywood blockbuster, “Ten Commandments.” Hopelessly trapped at the Red Sea, the Israelites didn’t stand a chance. Then God stepped into the mix. In this movie, as Pharaoh watched his army annihilated by God, he was forced to confess, “The God of Moses IS GOD!”
Last week we discussed that Strategy is a Master Plan that brings together ALL available resources in a coordinated effort to accomplish a goal. In God-Strategy # 1, we taught that God is THE General! He knows your past failures and your present dilemmas…but He also commands the future! He knows the enemy’s strategy and how you can defeat him in your life. And finally, we said that all you have to do is follow God’s strategy...because Jesus ALREADY defeated the devil and handed the victory to you.
The Strategic mind of God is totally inexhaustible! However, we can catch a few glimpses of His immeasurable wisdom and power. Consider the infinite superiority of God’s Generalship:
1. God Doesn’t Think Like You Think (Is. 55:8-9). We look at outward appearances…God looks at hearts (1 Sam. 16:7). We think “judgment”…God thinks Restoration (Ezek. 18:23). We ponder our life-span…God watches over a Thousand Life-Spans all at once (Deut. 7:9).
2. God Commands the Future (Is. 46:9-10). God, who sees the past, present and future with equal clarity, steps into your time/space world to direct, re-direct, initiate or bring things to an end according to His purposes. Even with freedom of will, He reserves the right to change the final outcome of your failures to show mercy, help others and further His Kingdom.
3. God Is Infinitely Secure and Totally Non-Threatened by Evil. God may, at His discretion, choose to use and even work through evil people to bring Him honor and further His cause (Ex. 14:4-18). God uses the momentum of the unrepentant to catch them in their own traps.
So…How Can You Navigate Life by Knowing the Generalship of God?
1. Be Still (cease striving) and Know that He is God (Ps. 46:10). Submit to His superior vantage and trust in His sovereign power to work all things together for good...if you love God and are called according to His purposes (Rom. 8:28).
2. Listen to Godly Counsel and Take Note of Circumstances (Acts 27:21). This is how God gives you strategic wisdom. If you’re always running into brick walls, maybe you should be listening better!
3. Pay Attention to Your Conscience (Rom. 2:15). It’s God’s strategic control center in your heart. By sensitizing your conscience, He guides you away from traps that could destroy you.
4. Prophetic Words are God’s Strategies (1 Tim. 1:18). The word for “warfare” (or fight) in this passage is “strateuomai”…meaning strategy. They give you strategic warnings and insight into God’s kind intentions for your life.
Next week we’ll examine the Second Strategy: “Knowing Who You Are in Christ.” Unless you strategically plan your life according to this knowledge, you’ll fall short of God’s intentions and you’ll never achieve your Destiny in Him.
